If you mean flamenco or classical style, it certainly could help – knowing which string is which note, etc. I think being able to read music is a definite plus, so that you don’t have to start from ground zero. Because this style of playing is not just about chords.

It can be more challenging if you don’t read music, but if you are motivated, try it. You will be learning a particular way to hold the guitar and use your fingers that is different than the usual.

i have 2 hours everyday on the bus and need to spend a bit more time on my spanish gcse would listening to spanish phrases on my ipod actually help? its just an idea any input would help

Yes of course!! The more you listen to it the more you will get familiar with the language. You will understands how words are pronounced and you will be able to understand people when they talk in spanish.
