The long weekend of May is approaching and still you are without any interesting ideas for spending this period? Have you been thinking of going to Spain? I know what you think: “For sure a lot of people are going to go to Spain to see Madrid and Barcelona. There will be crowds, lots of tourist on the streets; that is not for me!” But why not to choose some less popular, but still extremely interesting direction? What about Seville or Valencia?
They are both not so attended by tourists as the two capitals of Spain, even during Puente de Mayo (that is how the Spaniards call their long weekend), but still you can find there a lot of amazing monuments, relaxed atmosphere of Spanish cities and delicious meals and drinks. They are more in the south of the country, so you can count on good weather and tasty fresh fruits in the beginning of May. In Valencia, you can even sit on the beach, maybe take some sun bath. Necessarily you should also try paella- typical dish from this area and visit museum of Fallas, regional party of Valencia. It is also worth to take a walk in the little and curved streets of the old city to admire colourful houses.
If you decide to drop to Seville couple of days before 1st of May, you can still take part in the great local party Fiesta de Abril. During this event you can spot typical clothes, especially dresses of this region, you can try a lot of tapas and other dishes of Andalusia, see people dancing flamenco to the southern crazy music and take part in the never ending parties.
1st of May in Spain is also a free day due to the Labour Day. You can count on less traffics in the cities, but on the other hand, most of offices and shops can be closed, so you better think of dispatching needed things in advanced.
Three days in Seville are enough to fall in love with that city and with the language, which has especially nice for an ear pronunciation in Andalusia. Maybe you will decide to stay or come back to learn Spanish in Seville? Or if you choose Valencia, maybe you will look for Spanish school in Valencia? For sure you will love these places so much that you will want to come back one day for longer.
