In this lesson I cover the rules for pronouncing vowel combinations, or two consecutive vowels, in Spanish. Basically, the issue is whether to pronounce them together, in a single syllable (diphthong), or as two distinct syllables (hiatus). Here are the rules and some examples…

Prof. Jason muchas gracias for the nice video, I’m relatively new learner of this language. I think when it comes to the word “miércoles” the written accent is there to stress the first sylable instead of the sylable before the last since “miércoles” ends with an -s, other wise it would’ve been pronounced as miér-COL-es with the stress on “col”. and to break down the diphthong the written accent should be on the -i and not the -e.
please professor Jason and youtubers, correct me if i’m mistaken
